Armed Forces Day Flag Raising and Freedom Parade
On Monday 19 June, the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising ceremony will take place at the Guildhall, High Street at 12.30pm.
Then, on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 24 June, recruits from the Army Training Centre Pirbright will exercise their Freedom of the Borough by marching through the town with the Army colour flying and the Band of the Royal Logistics Corps playing.
ATC Pirbright has received the Freedom of the Borough of Guildford, as recognition of their history of distinguished service and outstanding contribution to the local community and the nation.
The parade will step off at 12.15pm from Town Bridge and will come to a halt outside Holy Trinity Church where there will be a short service and presentation of a commemorative scroll by the Mayor, Cllr Nigel Manning.
Cllr Nigel Manning, Mayor of Guildford, said: "I'm delighted to be taking part in the flag raising ceremony and supporting the military parade through Guildford.
"ATC Pirbright is the largest initial training site in the British Army and it has made an outstanding contribution to national life over many years by providing first class training for generations of newcomers."
Lt Col Richard Green, Army Training Centre (Pirbright) said: "We are hugely honoured to have received the Freedom of the Borough of Guildford on the 6th of March 2017, and we will take great pride in exercising our freedom through your wonderful town on Armed Forces Day 2017.
"All those at the Army Training Centre are greatly looking forward to the event and it continues to highlight the strong and historic relationship between the military in Pirbright and the Borough of Guildford."
