Success at Local Authority Building Control (LABC) South East Building Excellence Awards 2016

Our building control team are celebrating success with their customers following the recent South East LABC Building Excellence Awards held at The Grand, Brighton.

Jacqui Barr, Guildford's Building Control Manager and LABC Chair of the South East Region, provided the opening speech and welcomed over 400 guests to the ceremony including architects, contractors, designers and representatives from local authority building control who gathered to celebrate the best construction projects in the south east.

Nominated by our building control team, New Road Gomshall received a highly commended award in the Best High Volume New Housing Development category.

The Project Team included Buxton Building Contractors Ltd, ERMC and Guildford Borough Council. Rachel Dawson, New Homes Development from Neighbourhood and Housing Management Services and David Norman from Buxton Building Contractors collected the award on the Project Team's behalf.

Also recognised at the awards was the new Guildford Fire Station which received a highly commended award in the Best Public Service Building category.

The Project Team were Balfour Beatty, Jacobs and Surrey County Council.  Paul Buck the Building Control Surveyor who worked closely with the Project Team on the scheme accepted the award.

Well done to those who were involved in both projects for their fantastic achievement.

Overall there were 14 winning and 11 highly commended projects and individuals at the event.

The LABC awards are all about the essence of good buildings, with finalists judged not on architectural beauty, but on the "excellence" shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. They celebrate the design and construction teams that, having tussled with technical issues and difficult sites, found innovative and creative solutions.

Award categories cover the whole range of construction, rewarding everything from the best extension, local builder or traditional craftsperson and conversion through to the best new housing development, public service building, inclusive building and partnership with a local authority building control team.
