Essential design advice for homeowners extending or altering their properties

We are consulting on the new Residential Extensions and Alterations Supplementary Planning Document, or SPD that will replace the current Residential Extensions Guide (2004) if adopted by the Council.

The guide contains key information and guidance for homeowners and applicants on how to deliver well-designed residential extensions and alterations.

The updated design guide demonstrates the Council's commitment to ensuring that design development contributes to distinctive, sustainable and attractive places in the Borough. It also meets the objectives of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF, 2012) which stresses the importance of good design and the need to refuse permission for poorly designed proposals.

The consultation will run from 4 May to 4 June 2018. For more information, to view the document and to find out how to tell us your views, please visit the Planning Policy consultation website at https://getinvolved.guildford.gov.uk. Hard copies of the documents will be available to view during the Consultation period at the Council office main reception at Millmead and in all Borough Council libraries (during usual opening hours).

Published on Friday 4 May.
