Guildford Community Lottery - launch event

The Council is launching a new online lottery called the Guildford Community Lottery.

Guildford Community Lottery
On September 24 we will introduce the lottery to local charities, community and voluntary organisations, sports clubs, arts groups and other good causes.

Cllr Paul Spooner, Leader of Guildford Borough Council, says: "Our launch event will explain how the lottery works and how local organisations can directly benefit from participating. They will also be able to sign up at the event and become one of the first local groups to take this opportunity to raise funds."

Tickets will cost £1 with 60p going towards local good causes, compared to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery.

The draw will be weekly with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, other prizes being £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

There are two parts to the scheme - good causes will be able to set up their own lottery page, and will receive 50p in every pound spent by players using this method.

A further 10p in every pound will go to Guildford Philanthropy (a fund held by the Community Foundation for Surrey to support projects in Guildford), with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

At this stage, if good causes and groups in the community would like to attend the launch and consider signing up to the new lottery, please contact us at guildford.lottery@guildford.gov.uk.
