Providing services and minimising disruption during severe weather

Most of our services are operating as usual today. Our main priorities remain the safety of the public, our staff and helping our most vulnerable residents to make sure they have all they need.

Friday 1 February 2019 update

We continue to review the situation and you can find out the latest updates and advice on website, twitter and Facebook at @GuildfordBC.

Please help by also passing the information onto your neighbours and anyone without online access.

We work together across the Council to keep our services running and minimise disruption. We also help our most vulnerable residents, particularly the elderly and the homeless who rely on our vital services, to make sure they are safe and have all they need. We ask everyone to support their local community in any way possible and to check on their neighbours to make sure they are well.

We plan ahead and work together with key agencies for a variety of emergency situations. Surrey County Council is responsible for schools, highways and gritting the roads and we help support them with clearing and gritting pavements wherever possible.

Community care

We are operating as usual today and we contact our customers directly each day to let them know what is happening and to make sure they are ok.

  • Community Meals will operate as usual today but drivers will make an assessment as to safe access where necessary.

  • Community Transport will operate as usual today but drivers will make an assessment as to safe access where necessary.

Homeless and rough sleeping

Our staff work very closely with our partners to make sure that everyone who wants a place has somewhere safe and warm to sleep.

There is more information on our rough sleeping web page.

If you have concerns about anyone sleeping rough, or who appears to be homeless, please contact our local partner by emailing GuildfordHost@riverside.org.uk or calling them on 01483 302495.

There is also a national rough sleeper Streetlink reporting line. Visit the Streetlink website to find out more, or call them on 0300 500 901.

Recycling and food waste

All our crews are out collecting your food waste and recycling today and we'll do our best to get to everyone with a scheduled collection. There could be some local disruption to collections depending on the conditions.

Please continue to leave your wheeled bins and food waste caddy out for collection.

Parking

We concentrate on helping customers and supporting our local business community to keep the town centre open for business.

We are operating a near normal service and are assessing each car park and will close any that we feel are unsafe. As we expect the weather to improve, it is highly likely all car parks will be open later in the day. The Park and Ride services are operating as usual.

Keeping up to date in severe weather
