Business rates retail discount 2019 - 2021
Retail discounts are given to eligible business ratepayers in the form of discretionary rate relief.
Since 2019, eligible retailers with a rateable value below £51,000 have been given a 33.3% discount on their business rates bills. In 2020 the scheme was expanded in response to the pandemic. Expanded Retail Discount is available to occupied retail, leisure and hospitality properties with no rateable value limit on the relief. All eligible businesses will have had the discount applied.
The rateable value of your property is set by the Valuation Office Agency. We use this value to work out your business rates bill.

The scheme has been modified again in 2021. More details about the scheme can be found on our financial help for businesses during coronavirus page.
