Two Conservation Area Appraisal Consultations now open

Guildford Borough Council will be conducting a four-week public consultation on two draft conservation area appraisals for West Horsley and Effingham.

The consultations will both be held between Monday 27 January and Monday 24 February 2020.

The purpose of a conservation area appraisal is to record those aspects of the conservation area that make a particular contribution to its special character, appearance and which should be preserved and enhanced. The special character of a conservation area does not just come from the quality of its buildings but also other elements, such as historic road layouts, open spaces, paths and boundaries, as well as the use of local materials and detailing. All of these contribute to an area's special and unique character.

Comments on the draft appraisal documents can be emailed to: Conservation@guildford.gov.uk

Following the public consultation and after consideration of representations made, the Conservation Area Appraisals will be amended to address valid points of concern.

A summary of the comments received and the amended Conservation Area Appraisal for West Horsley and Effingham will both be formally submitted for approval by the Council's Executive Committee. They will become adopted documents that will provide a clear understanding of these areas' special character which will become a material consideration in the planning process to be used to inform proposals for new development.
