Recycling and waste

Recycling and Waste - There may be changes to your usual recycling and waste collections. We are taking extra precautions which may impact our normal schedule.

  - These are suspended as our provider observes government restrictions.

Recycling sites - including Slyfield - These are now closed.

Council housing repairs

Council housing - services for tenants - Only emergency / urgent repairs - precautions in place for visits.


Car parks - Town centre car parks are now free (apart from Bright Hill).

Request a parking bay suspension - Parking bay suspension applications are suspended apart from Covid-19 related requests.

Guildford resident and visitor parking - We are not currently processing parking permits, don't worry if you are a resident or key worker and need to park in a bay but do not have a permit, as we are offering greater flexibility to use these bays. 

Waverley residents' parking permit scheme - Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere - We have stopped issuing new or renewal permits for the time being. All existing permits will be extended until further notice and residents will be able to park without the need for a permit. We will contact people when things return to normal and we restart the renewals.

Local land charges

Local Land Charges - We are unable to accept Official certified searches through the post or DX, please email your completed search request forms to landcharges@guildford.gov.uk  and pay via our online payment system. 

Personal Search procedures have been amended while you are unable to visit our offices, if you wish to carry out a personal search on a property please email the address of the property and a plan to landcharges@guildford.gov.uk. The Local Land Charges register for the property will then be emailed to you. Please allow three working days for us to respond.

Planning pre-application advice

We are not able to offer any site visits or meetings as part of our pre-application advice service until further notice. If you would still like to proceed with pre-application advice, please only choose a Bronze level service. Thank you. See the planning pre-application advice page for details.

Handyperson scheme

The Handy person scheme is operating a limited service for urgent and essential works. Hospital discharges will take priority.

Building Control

The Building Control team can still be contacted on 01483 444545 or by emailing buildingcontrol@guildford.gov.uk. We are providing a very limited site inspection service - where we do not need to enter living accommodation and where social distancing can be exercised. Please contact us to discuss.

We have closed/cancelled the following until further notice:

Taxi drivers' Knowledge test

Bookings have been cancelled for anyone taking their Knowledge test to become a hackney carriage driver or private hire driver. We are not taking any further bookings at this time.

Children/family activities

Stoke Park - Visit Point and minigolf are closed.

Playgrounds -all our Playgrounds are closed.

Playrangers - Playranger service is not running sessions.

FISH (Fun in the School Holidays)  - FISH playscheme will not be going ahead this Easter. Full refunds will be processed to all current bookings.

The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games event for 2020 and taster sports sessions have been cancelled.

The Guildford in Bloom School Gardening competition has been cancelled.

Tourist Information Centre - Although the Tourist Information Centre building is closed to the public, our staff are still answering emails and telephone calls and are able to process refunds for cancelled event tickets. For more information, go to: www.visitguildford.com

Stoke Park - Visitor Point and Mini Golf were due to reopen in May but will now remain closed until further notice.

Farmers' Market - Farmers' Markets on 7 April and 5 May are cancelled.

Heritage Services - all of our Heritage buildings (The GuildhallGuildford CastleGuildford House Gallery, Guildford MuseumWanborough Barn and The Undercroft) are now closed.

Chantry Wood Campsite is closed.

Sports pitch bookings are cancelled and the borough's tennis courts are now closed.

Community activities

Community litter picking - We are not enabling any community litter picking at the present time.

The Police and Crime Commissioner Election, which was due to take place on Thursday 7 May 2020, has been postponed until Thursday 6 May 2021.
