Apply for a street trading licence for a single event

Charity/community street trading events

If you are trading at a charity or community event, you may qualify for a discounted street trading consent fee of £40.

What event would qualify for a discount?

✔ the event must be organised by a charity or community organisation

✔ the event aims to involve and support the local community

✔ any trading activity will be secondary to the main purpose of the event

✔ the event organiser will not be charging a pitch fee to trade at the event. Farmers' markets, car boot sales, or similar events do not come under this category, even if they are raising money for charity

If you want to hold a number of events throughout the year, you will need to apply for each event separately. Otherwise you can apply for a full street trading consent.

What is a commercial event?

Commercial events are usually organised by a person or group to make money, even if the purpose is to raise money for a good cause.

  • the event will be aiming to attract the wider community for a commercial purpose
  • trading will be the main feature of the event
  • the event organiser will be charging a pitch fee to trade at the event

You must apply at least two months before your event.

The fee for a commercial event is £338.

Full consent can last for up to one year, and allows you to trade at commercial events, such as farmers' markets and free-to-enter car boot sales and trade with catering vans, whether static (such as kebab vans) or mobile (such as ice-cream vans) and other street traders.

Food stalls at events

Any traders selling food at a charity/community event or commercial event must have a minimum food hygiene rating of 3 out of 5 before they can trade.

See our Food hygiene rating scheme page for more information.

You must email a full list of traders to regulatoryservices@guildford.gov.uk at least a week before your event.

Where a trader is selling food, you must tell us which local authority they are registered with, and their current food hygiene rating.
