Improving Leapale Road Car Park

Work to widen parking spaces and improve surfaces at Leapale Road multi-storey car park begins next week.

To allow us to start this work, the car park will close for up to five weeks from Tuesday 4 May.

Levels 1-4 of the 12-storey car park will reopen between 1 and 8 June once the first stage of the work has been completed, with levels 5-8 reopening 4-5 weeks after that. The car park will fully reopen by early August.

Our nearest alternative car parks are Old Police Station, Commercial Road, Bedford Road multi-storey and North Street. The spaces on North Street are not available on Friday or Saturday due to our weekly market.

Director of Service Delivery, Ian Doyle says:
"This work will make parking at one of our town centre's busiest short stay car parks safer and easier and prevent the need for more extensive maintenance in the near future. As Coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions begin to ease, we look forward to welcoming more residents and visitors back to our town centre and making every stage of their stay as enjoyable as possible. As part of our work to ensure visits to our town centre are Covid-secure, we encourage everyone to continue to follow government guidelines when using our car parks, including social distancing whilst waiting to pay.

"Our town centre car parks offer a range of options to suit everyone, from people who are popping in for just a few minutes to those wanting to also enjoy lunch in town, with parking prices starting at £1. Other short-stay car parks, with hourly rates, include Farnham Road, Mary Road, Upper High Street, Bedford Road Surface and Old Police Station car parks as well as North Street. Our RingGo parking app lets you pay for parking by phone, and you can extend your stay without returning to your car.

"Our three Park and Ride sites, at the Spectrum Leisure Centre, Artington and Merrow, offer the best value for money, with prices from £1.90 per person per day, and up to two children under 16 can travel free with each fare-paying adult. For full details of all of our car parks, visit www.guildford.gov.uk/carparks."

We are asking visitors to let us know how they feel about returning to Guildford town centre by completing our short survey at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/HVL0UF/ by Sunday 23 May. Those who take part will have a chance to enter a prize draw to win a £100 voucher to spend on any business that is part of the Mi Rewards scheme: https://mi-rewards.com/guildford. The prize draw will take place on Monday 24 May.
