Get licensing advice

We offer three application advice services to help you with your licensing application before you submit it. 

• application checking service (to check any errors in your application and to see if there is anything missing)
• application advice service (advice on your application as well as up to one hour of an officer's time)
• full application checking service (a full application check including up to four hours of an officer's time)

These are pre-submission services. The aim is to help you to fix any problems which may come up during the application process. It makes sure the application has all the information and conditions the council would expect to be in place. The advice we give is for guidance only. Using this service does not guarantee an application will be granted.

You can get pre-application licensing advice for: 

• animal activities licensing
• gambling, gaming and lotteries licensing
• alcohol, entertainment and late night refreshment licensing
• taxi licences
• street trading licensing
• sex establishment licensing

Fee: £31.50

• we will check there are no errors in your application and give you a list of anything missing
• we will not give you any advice on the application process or meet with you in person
• this check usually takes three working days

Fee: £96

• this is an application checking service and includes up to one hour of an officer's time. This can be over the phone or at our council offices. It does not include a site visit
• you will get advice on the application process, form, plans and conditions
• you will get a short guidance report, including how to submit your application to meet the requirements
• you can get extra time with an officer, charged at £60 per hour, paid in advance
• this service usually takes 10 working days

• the full application checking service includes up to four hours of officer' time, including a site visit/meeting
• we will help you understand any issues with your application
• you will get written guidance on your application and how it could be submitted
• you can get extra time with an officer, charged at £60 per hour, paid in advance
• extra environmental health officer time is also available, charged at £75 per hour, paid in advance. They can offer you advice on public nuisance and public safety
• this service usually takes 15 working days

This form will guide you through paying for the application advice of your choice. 

• payment must be made in advance
• we will not share your data with third parties, unless it is needed to support your application or to prevent or detect crime
• we will only ask for the minimum personal information needed to provide this service
• this service is not available once you submit your application and it is accepted
