On-street parking in Guildford and Waverley

Guildford Borough Council manages on-street parking in the Boroughs of Guildford and Waverley on behalf of Surrey County Council.

In Guildford town centre, apart from the bays reserved for permit holders only or disabled badge holders and taxis, all other on-street parking places in the centre of town are available to motor vehicles on a pay and display basis. Those nearest the centre of the town are limited to 30 minutes; the remainder are limited to two hours. The cost is £1 for 30 minutes. However, on the eastern side of the town centre, there are some bays limited to three hours and the cost is 60p for 30 minutes.

Most on-street parking is controlled Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6pm, including Bank and Public Holidays. However, in Dene Road, Denmark Road, Eastgate Gardens, Bury Fields, Millmead Terrace, Lawn Road and Bury Street the controlled hours are 8.30am to 9pm seven days a week, including Bank and Public Holidays.

Designated disabled parking bays and taxi ranks are controlled 24 hours.

Double yellow lines indicate no parking at any time.

Parking enforcement - 10 minute grace period

Regulations which came into force on 6 April 2015, give motorists who overstay in a car park, or parking space, a ten-minute grace period after their permitted parking time has expired before they may be issued with a ticket.

(The permitted time could be the time on their pay and display ticket or the time they are allowed to park in a bay with a time restriction.)

On-street parking restrictions on the single yellow lines and most parking bays in Farnham town centre apply between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday, including Bank and Public Holidays. However some restrictions in the centre carry on until 8.00pm Monday to Saturday so please always check the signs. Double yellow lines indicate no parking at any time.

Guildford School Watch initiative

The parking office has conducted a trial 'Guildford School Watch' where enforcement officers recorded the outcome of patrols at schools in Guildford. This trial was a success and now forms part of our enforcement officers' regular patrols where schools have been highlighted in having a problem with illegal parking, causing safeguarding concerns. A School Watch trial is now being conducted in Waverley.

  • Slide 1 - School Watch findings by month for patrols carried out, move ons and penalty charge notices (PCN).

  • Slide 2 - School Watch findings by term for patrols carried out, move ons, PCNs and patrols carried out by percentage for the period of enforcement.

The findings demonstrate that enforcement officers, where possible, prefer to educate and move drivers on, and only issue penalty charge notices as a last resort.
