On-street parking in Guildford and Waverley

Guildford Borough Council manages on-street parking in the Boroughs of Guildford and Waverley on behalf of Surrey County Council.

In Guildford town centre, apart from the bays reserved for permit holders only or disabled badge holders and taxis, all other on-street parking places in the centre of town are available to motor vehicles on a pay and display basis. Those nearest the centre of the town are limited to 30 minutes; the remainder are limited to two hours. The cost is £1 for 30 minutes. However, on the eastern side of the town centre, there are some bays limited to three hours and the cost is 60p for 30 minutes.

Most on-street parking is controlled Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6pm, including Bank and Public Holidays. However, in Dene Road, Denmark Road, Eastgate Gardens, Bury Fields, Millmead Terrace, Lawn Road and Bury Street the controlled hours are 8.30am to 9pm seven days a week, including Bank and Public Holidays.

Designated disabled parking bays and taxi ranks are controlled 24 hours.

Double yellow lines indicate no parking at any time.

Parking enforcement - 10 minute grace period

Regulations which came into force on 6 April 2015, give motorists who overstay in a car park, or parking space, a ten-minute grace period after their permitted parking time has expired before they may be issued with a ticket.

(The permitted time could be the time on their pay and display ticket or the time they are allowed to park in a bay with a time restriction.)

In Farnham town centre, there are pay and display parking bays. The length of time you can stay is limited to two hours and the cost is 70p per 30 minutes in Castle Street and 50p per 30 minutes in The Hart, Long Garden Walk, West Street and Falkner Road.

On-street parking restrictions on the single yellow lines and most parking bays in Farnham town centre apply between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday, including Bank and Public Holidays. However some restrictions in the centre carry on until 8.00pm Monday to Saturday so please always check the signs. Double yellow lines indicate no parking at any time.

Designated disabled parking bays and taxi ranks are controlled 24 hours.

Amendments to parking enforcement in Guildford and Waverley

Enforcement officers in Guildford and Waverley have a new option when it comes to issuing a penalty charge notice (PCN) to vehicles parked illegally.

  • Previously, officers issued a PCN if the driver of an illegally parked vehicle did not move when advised or if the motorist was not around.
  • Our officers can now issue a PCN if the motorist drives off before a ticket is issued. In this instance, the driver will get their notice through the post, even if an enforcement officer has only started writing out the PCN.

The aim is to provide a stronger deterrent to motorists who park illegally, with the expectation that they can avoid a penalty by moving their vehicles as soon as they see enforcement being carried out. This will help make the environment safer, especially for children and areas close to schools.

Guildford and Waverley School Watch

Our parking team runs a Guildford and Waverley School Watch programme to keep school entrances and exits clear of vehicles, prevent illegal parking and to make sure children can safely cross the road during school pick-up and drop-off times. To find out more, see our School Watch - keeping children safe around schools page.
