Consultations on taxi and private hire licensing policy changes

We are consulting on two changes to the taxi and private hire licensing policy, adopted in December 2015. Please let us know your views by filling in the online surveys.

Changes to convictions policy

Working with the 11 other licensing authorities in Surrey, we are consulting on an update to our convictions policy. We want to make sure all Surrey authorities have the same standards.

This change to our policy would mean that a driver who has been refused by one Surrey authority would not be able to be licensed by another Surrey authority.

We are also consulting on the introduction of mandatory safeguarding training for all drivers to raise awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). This training will raise standards and enable drivers to identify the signs of CSE and know how to raise their concerns.

The survey will run from Monday 23 October and will close on 4 December.

Card payments in taxis

We are consulting on the introduction of a requirement for all taxis to accept payments by debit/credit card. This change will make travelling by taxis easier for customers and improve safety for drivers.

We want to get the views of members of the public, local businesses, taxi drivers and taxi companies about these changes.
