The Rural Life Centre is a museum of past village life covering the years 1750 to 1960. It is set in over ten acres of garden and woodland and housed in purpose-built and reconstructed buildings including a chapel, village hall, cricket pavilion and schoolroom.

Displays show village crafts and trades such as wheelwriting, bakers, vets and many more. A historic village playground provides entertainment for children as does a preserved narrow gauge light railway which operates on Sundays. There is also an arboretum with over 100 species of trees from around the world.

School Group Visits

This countryside museum offers an innovative and stimulating educational visit. Tailor made programmes are agreed and delivered through immersive hands-on workshops that are designed to meet the visiting groups learning objectives and are delivered at an age appropriate level, often in period buildings. Experiences may focus on Local Heritage, Changes Within Living Memory, Houses and Homes, Victorian Life, Living During the Great War, World War II, Transport and Farming. Other themes may be possible.

Only one educational group is booked on site at any one time. All accompanying adults are free and all workshops are full risk assessed. Visits are available every day between February and November.

The museum has a Quality Badge awarded by the Council for Learning outside the Classroom.
