The Garden Flat
The Garden Flat is a self-contained flat within Chartfield, a pretty, Lutyen inspired country house. The ground floor flat opens onto a lovely garden in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Direct access on foot and bike to beautiful walks and off road trails. Easy travel to London & local business centres. Pretty village with shops & pubs. QiT 4*
The Garden Flat has spacious rooms with floors of solid oak or old quarry tiles; bespoke curtains and hand knotted rugs give a relaxed, elegant and comfortable atmosphere.
Optical fibre broadband, induction hob, Satellite TV and a heating system with 'Nest' thermostat, provide guests with hi-tech control of their environment.
The kitchen is equipped with hob, fan oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer (also line outside), microwave, kettle, toaster, food processor and lots of china and pans.
The Garden Flat is one of two flats in Chartfield, each flat is private and self-contained. The Garden Flat has a private veranda and guests have access to most of the 3 acres of grounds around the house. There are views from the flats over the pretty garden across the lake to the North Downs beyond. The gardens are planted to give interest throughout the year and were landscaped in the 1930s by RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winning designer Ralph Hancock (who also designed the Kensington Roof Gardens and those atop the Rockefeller Centre in New York).
We are in the Surrey Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by open countryside, much of it owned and managed by the National Trust. Chartfield sits between two ancient trackways: The Pilgrims Way (North Downs Way), which runs from Canterbury to Winchester and the Greensand Way which runs from Haslemere to Ham Street in Kent. There are many interconnecting paths allowing circular walks of an hour or more or all day and many delightful teashops and ancient local pubs. The Garden Flat has boot racks, ordinance survey maps and details of recommended walks and we’re happy to suggest routes too.
Cycling, both road and mountain biking is hugely popular locally, with both the Olympics in 2012 and the annual Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, passing our drive. Nirvana, the specialist bike shop in Westcott offers cycle hire and weekly, guided mountain biking rides through the Surrey Hills. We can offer secure cycle storage for guests.
There are many interesting and challenging courses locally including Walton Heath, Wentworth, Wisley, Silvermere and St George’s Hill, with good local clubs in Dorking.
Beautiful Houses and Gardens:
The Garden Flat & Dormer Venn at Chartfield provide an ideal base to explore the Royal Horticultural Society’s world famous garden at Wisley, the Winkworth Arboretum, Painshill Park and Loseley Park, also the National Trust properties of Clandon, Hatchlands, Polesden Lacey, Claremont Landscape Gardens and Ham House. All are within easy reach.
Adrenaline junkies may like to visit Mercedes-Benz World, Wings and Wheels at Dunsfold, Thorpe Park or Chessington World of Adventures, all about half an hour away. Both fishing and horse riding are available locally.
