Find out about the Wisley Airfield Garden Village bid
What are the criteria for making a successful bid to create a garden community?
The Government has invited bids for locally-led new garden communities that can help deal with the housing shortage while delivering high quality, successful places. A prospectus (PDF) [313KB] was published which included a number of criteria that need to be met in order to be successful.
A successful bid would have significant benefits for the borough and local communities, including additional funding for infrastructure and resourcing, as well as support and expertise from Government agencies. The site will still need to be allocated through the adoption of the new Local Plan and would need to go through the usual planning application process.
The designation of a Garden Village does not represent a planning approval, but is an important step to realising accelerated delivery of homes and associated infrastructure were planning approval to be granted. It will also ensure that the development of the site achieves the high quality design principles embedded within the garden communities programme.
