Have your say on the future of local councils in Surrey

Take part in a landmark Government consultation on proposals to replace Surrey's current councils with up to three larger authorities. We support a three unitary approach - Find out more and read our consultation question guide.

Join us at an online or in-person event where you find out more about Local Government Organisation, ask questions and find out how to have your say.

Planned maintenance to our phone payment system

Search the brownfield land register

What is the register?

Our Brownfield Land Register lists Previously Developed Land (PDL) that could accommodate future residential developments.

Learn more about PDL (opens new window)

The register has two parts:

  • Part 1 lists all PDL
  • Part 2 shows which sites we will grant Permission in Principle (PiP) for.

Part 1 is updated annually in December. We may opt to publish Part 2 in a future annual update to the register once a timescale is agreed.

Sites on the register can come from any source. They generally include allocations in the Local Plan, sites with planning permission and sites submitted by landowners. Any site which meets the criteria in Regulation 4 of The Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations (opens new window) can go on the register, even if it does not have planning permission.

Some areas of PDL are not in the register. We could still consider these sites appropriate for residential development.

Inclusion of a site on the register does not mean that it will be granted planning permission. All sites will be assessed through the normal planning application process.
