Reductions for Surrey County Council care leavers under 25
Discounts for Surrey County Council care leavers under 25
You can receive a reduction on your council tax bill if you, or someone in your household:
- is under 25 years old
- live in Guildford borough, and
- have just left the care of Surrey County Council
The care leaver needs to be a council tax payer to get the reduction. This means they need to be named on the council tax bill.
The amount of the reduction will depend on how many other council tax payers there are in your household:
- if you pay council tax on your own, the reduction will be 100%. This means you will be exempt
- if you pay council tax with one other person, then the reduction will be 50%
- if you pay council tax with two other people, the reduction will be 33%
- the care leaver discount is applied after all other discounts, reductions or exemptions are made
The discount will only be awarded for the 2021/22 year and will stop on the 31st March 2022. Or on the 25th birthday of the care leaver, whatever is sooner.
You need to have a MyGuildford account to apply for this discount online. If you do not have a MyGuildford account you can set one up.
