Voter ID road show to pop up around Guildford

Throughout March we will be at locations around the borough talking about the need for voter ID at this year's local elections. For the first time, due to a change in the law, residents will need to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. We want to make sure that residents are aware of the new rules and know what they need to do ahead of polling day. Polling takes place for borough and parish councils on Thursday 4 May 2023.
We will be at the following venues between 10am and 2pm:
- Tuesday 7 March 2023: Farmers Market, Guildford High Street
- Thursday 9 March 2023: Sainsbury's at Burpham
- Saturday 11 March 2023: The Friary Centre, Guildford
- Tuesday 14 March 2023: Tesco at Park Barn
- Thursday 16 March: The Hive in Park Barn
- Tuesday 30 March 2023: The Spectrum Leisure Centre
Come along and talk to us about the elections and the need for voter ID if you are going to vote at a polling station. We will be encouraging people to check they have an accepted form of photo ID, so they are ready to vote on 4 May. We'll have leaflets to take away that explain everything you need to know.
Returning Officer, Tom Horwood explained:
"It's important for us to reach as many voters as possible. We're running a social media campaign, and we recognise that not everyone is online. These roadshows provide another way to find out about the new rules. We want to make sure that everyone who wants to vote on 4 May can do so. The new ID rules apply to people voting in polling stations, not those who are registered for postal votes."
At these events we will be focussing on the need for Photo ID to vote at a polling station. But our team will also be there to chat about voter registration, other ways to vote, and answer questions.
We have already sent leaflets out to 61,000 households throughout the borough. We will be sending more information with Council Tax bills and in the new style polling cards.
