Putting residents first with our new Tenant and Leaseholder Engagement Strategy

Housing in Gomshall

The strategy marks a step-change in how we work with tenants, leaseholders, and residents in temporary accommodation to shape services together.

At its core, the strategy is about listening, acting, and building trust. It supports three of the Council's key priorities: delivering decent and affordable homes, creating a more inclusive borough, and ensuring a resilient and well-managed council.

Councillor Julia McShane, Leader of the Council and Lead Cllr for Housing said:

"At Guildford, we believe housing is about more than just buildings. It's about people. It's about community. And it's about having pride in where we live. That's why we've launched our new Tenant and Leaseholder Engagement Strategy, a real commitment to putting resident voices at the heart of everything we do. We're not just listening, we're working together to co-design services, shape policies, and make decisions together. Residents told us what matters most to them: better communication, faster repairs, cleaner estates, and a stronger voice in how services are run. And we're acting on it. We're making it easier for everyone to get involved, supporting ideas, and building stronger, more connected communities together."

Through collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement, working with residents will shape a future where social housing is a source of pride and community strength. The Tenant and Leaseholder Engagement Strategy is promised in our new Delivery Plan. This marks another important step in fulfilling the commitments set out in that plan, demonstrating our ongoing dedication to delivering on our vision.

Alan Wood, Chairperson of the Tenant Engagement Group, added:

"We're a group of residents who care about not just our own, but all council housing. As a group we provide honest feedback, ask good questions, and work with the Council to ensure they see things from a tenant's point of view. I'm delighted that we've had the chance to feed into this new strategy. Working together with the Council means we can all be assured that they are really listening to us. We can challenge decisions, help shape the service, and make sure that all tenants and leaseholders get the very best and safest council homes to live in."

This strategy is more than a document, it's our commitment to building a housing service that is inclusive, responsive, and resident focussed.
