Guildford Renewable Energy Mapping Study
In February 2015, our Renewable Energy Mapping Study was published. It considered which areas in the borough best suit the following renewable energy technologies:
- solar PV
- solar thermal
- wind turbines
- hydro power
- heat pumps
- district heating
The report builds on the Government's mapping study.
Why did we commission the study?
Renewable energy will help support Government policies. The Government aims to reduce:
- carbon emissions
- the amount of carbon used to supply electricity
- the cost of importing fuel
- the risk of fuel supply being disrupted (the risk rises if fuel comes from unstable parts of the world)
- the amount of infrastructure needed to transport energy across the country
Locally generated energy would also have economic benefits for Guildford.
