Garden waste collection scheme
If you do not want to compost your garden waste and are unable to take it to the local Community Recycling Centre (rubbish tip) you can sign up to our garden waste collection scheme. This is a kerbside collection of garden waste, costing £35 per bin for 2018/19.
How much do I pay?
One bin collection - £35
Two bin collection - £70
Three bin collection - £105
You can have as many bins as you need. Each additional bin collection will cost an extra £35.

If you are an existing garden waste subscriber, please remember:
to continue to use the bin that we provided during your last subscription period
contact us if you lose or damage your bin. We will charge you £30 for a new one unless the damage or loss was our fault.
your collection is a fortnightly service
we do not collect garden waste for two weeks over the Christmas period
refunds will not be issued if you cancel your subscription during the year
we will contact you when you need to renew your subscription. If you have provided an email address, this will be by email.
By signing up to the service as a new subscriber, you will receive:
a 240 litre brown bin
a fortnightly collection (25 collections) not including two weeks over the Christmas period.
your application is valid from 31 March 2018 and ends on 30 March 2019. A charge of £35 per bin is made for the year, regardless of the date of joining the scheme
refunds will not be issued if you cancel your subscription during the year
you will need to provide an email address when you make your payment (online, over the phone) if you have one
your bin should be presented for collection from 6.30am on the day of collection.
Terms and conditions
You should continue to use the garden waste bin(s) that we provided during your last subscription period.
This application is valid from 31 March 2018 and ends on 30 March 2019. A charge of £35 per bin is made for the year, regardless of the date that you join the scheme.
We do not collect garden waste during the two weeks over Christmas and the New Year.
If you let your subscription expire, we reserve the right to collect your bin(s) as they are the property of Guildford Borough Council.
Refunds will not be issued if you cancel your subscription during the year.
Your subscription(s) can be transferred if you move house within the borough.
We strongly recommend that you label your bin(s) with your property number or name.
Please put your bin(s) out at the property boundary or other point specified by the Council, by 6.30am on the day of collection.
The bin lid must be closed for collection. Side waste will not be collected.
We do not collect soil, as this service is for garden waste for composting only. Putting soil in the bin is likely to put the weight over the lifting limit of 50kg. We will leave any bin that weighs over 50kg.
We are unable to accept any plastics in amongst your garden waste collection, including plastic sacks of any type.
A contaminated container will not be emptied. You must remove the contamination and present the container for the next scheduled collection. We will not return if the container was contaminated. For information about what to put in the garden waste bin, see the details on this page.
Please do not compact materials into the bin, as they will not tip out during the automated emptying process.
If we miss your bin(s) on collection day, please let us know within two working days using our report a missed bin collection page or by phone on 01483 444499. We will not return if a missed collection is reported after this period.
If you lose or damage your bin please contact us. We will charge you £30 for a new one unless the damage or loss was our fault.
We are unable to provide any concessionary rates for this scheme.
If you have not received your delivery within four weeks and you ordered a new or additional bin before the 28 February, you must report this to us as soon as possible.
If you provide an email address for renewal reminders, it is your responsibility to check that you have given us the correct address and that you have received emails about your garden waste renewal service each year.
This service is only available to domestic residents. We cannot provide a garden waste collection service to commercial customers.
Payment must be registered to an individual residential property. If you are applying on behalf of a communal residence (for example, several flats), please phone us first before making your payment on 01483 444499.
We reserve the right to refuse a service to any property for any reason. If we cancel a service we will provide a pro-rata refund of the remaining service subscription.
Signing up to the scheme - how do I pay?
You can sign up and pay:

We are no longer accepting payment by cheque.
If you send us a cheque, we will return it and ask you for another payment method.
When you have made your payment, you do not need to contact us. We will not confirm your payment with vouchers for bins or sacks. Our systems know when you have made your payment. You can check your order on our Garden waste collection page.
If you have provided a valid email address, you should receive a payment receipt. Please keep a record of your payment. You will need this if you contact us about any payment queries. If you do not receive a payment receipt, please email us with the email address you used to pay, your full address, method of payment (debit/credit card) and Garden Waste reference number.
New and existing subscribers
If you have not received your delivery within four weeks and you ordered a new or additional bin before the 28 February, you must report this to us as soon as possible by emailing email@example.com.
If you no longer wish to subscribe to the garden waste collection scheme and you want us to collect your bin(s), please contact us in April.
Depending on the time of year that you contact us, bin collection(s) can take up to eight weeks. Our peak time of service is March and April, so there may be delays in collections during this time.
If you cancel the service, as per our Terms and conditions, please remember we are unable to give a refund at any point during the year.
If you have not paid for the service, we will attempt to recover your bin(s) even if you do not contact us, as bins are the Council's property.
If you have forgotten to pay for your garden waste service and your bin(s) were not emptied or your bin(s) have been collected because of a missed payment, please apply or renew your service again on our Garden waste collection page. If you are paying due to a recent missed collection, please be aware that:
- your payment is due at the beginning of the subscription year to avoid missed collections
we will not return for your missed collection once you have made your payment
we will, however, return to empty your bin(s) or sacks on your next scheduled collection
we will not provide any refunds or exceptions for a missed collection due to accidental or forgotten payments
if you renew after 31 March 2018, your subscription will still end on 30 March 2019.
Our payment system can take 24 to 48 hours to update. Our system is generally administered during office hours, so you may not see an immediate update to your collection services if you pay before or during a weekend.
