Guildford Borough Council launches new climate change website
We've launched a new online resource to help residents, businesses and community groups better understand climate change and how they can take action.
The Guildford Climate Hub brings together clear, trusted information in one place. It explains:
- what climate change means for Guildford,
- what we're doing to address it
- and how everyone in the borough can play their part.
It also highlights local support, events and community groups who are making a difference.
Climate change is already affecting Guildford. This includes heavier rainfall and increased flood risk, as well as hotter summers that can impact health, homes and wildlife. The Guildford Climate Hub makes information:
- easier to find
- easier to understand
- relevant to people in the borough
We declared a Climate Emergency in June 2019 and we're working to reach our goal of becoming Net Zero by 2030. The website supports this aim as well as its Climate Change Action Plan, which is currently being refreshed.
The website aligns with many of our key priorities, including:
- to make Guildford a more sustainable borough
- supporting healthy and resilient communities
- forging partnerships with residents, businesses and organisations across the borough
Cllr Angela Goodwin, Lead Councillor for Environment and Sustainability at Guildford Borough Council, said:
"Climate change can sometimes feel like an overwhelming subject, but the actions that really matter in the fight against it start locally.
"I'm delighted that we're able to launch the new Guildford Climate Hub. It's a website that will empower our residents with clear information, practical support and positive examples of what's already happening in our communities.
"By working together we can protect our borough and build a greener, healthier Guildford for all."
The hub includes:
- clear explanations of climate change, what it is and related topics
- details of what the council is doing to reduce emissions and adapt to climate impacts
- information about grants, support and advice for homes and businesses
- a list of local climate action groups and partners
- tips for living more sustainably and reducing carbon footprints
- links to key council reports, plans and information
By creating a dedicated climate change website, we want to encourage collaboration and make it easier for residents to get involved. Whether that's through small changes at home, joining a community project or attending an event, every action matters.
Residents and organisations are encouraged to explore the new site and share feedback as the council continues to develop it.
