The Guildford Access Group
Who we are
The Guildford Access Group was first established in 1978. This was during a time when there was almost no legislation protecting disabled people.
Its membership is completely voluntary. The group is made up of people with disabilities and anyone who is interested in improving access in their community.
Who attends our meetings?
- Individuals with a professional background
- elected Guildford Borough councillors
- officers from Guildford Borough Council (GBC)
- officers from Surrey County Council (SCC)
What we do
The Access Group continues to campaign for greater disability awareness so that our community can be truly inclusive.
As a group, our area of influence includes:
- sports and leisure facilities
- transport
- access to the countryside
- public amenities
- polling stations
- awareness of disability issues
We also work with highway authorities to provide safe pedestrian routes, parking places, and secure crossing points with dropped kerbs.
What we have achieved
The Guildford Access Group is proud of the following achievements:
- the Mayor's Award for Access
- promoting accessibility in Guildford by participating in key borough consultations
