Come and watch work at Ash Road Bridge

Ash Road Bridge construction April 2024

Ash residents will have a chance to see progress on Ash Road Bridge first hand over the next Bank Holiday weekend, 4 to 6 May.

A viewing area is being created on the south site on Foreman Road so people can watch the work. Nineteen bridge beams, each 24 metres long, are being installed over the weekend using a 750-tonne mobile crane. Two of the beams weigh 45 tonnes and the remaining 17 weigh 27 tonnes each. They will form the bridge deck for the new road which spans the abutments on either side of the railway.

We have permission from Network Rail to undertake this work as part of the scheduled railway closure over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The viewing area will be open on Saturday 4 May and Sunday 5 May between:

  • 10am to 12pm
  • 4pm to 5pm

Booking is necessary as numbers are limited.  You can book in advance by emailing ashroadbridge@volkerfitzpatrick.co.uk. Some parking is available on site.

There will be rail replacement buses between Ash and Guildford over the weekend. National Rail website (opens new window) before travelling.
