Unveiling bold Housing Strategies to tackle homelessness and improve housing

We have taken a significant step forward in our commitment to continued housing improvement with the approval of two key strategies:
- The Housing Strategy 2025-2034
- The Homelessness Prevention and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2025-2034
These newly endorsed strategies outline our vision and priorities for housing across the borough and form a core part of our Housing Improvement Plan, designed to align services with the Corporate Strategy 2024-2034. (opens new window)
A commitment to positive change
This approach reflects our dedication to:
- Enhancing housing options for all residents
- Supporting vulnerable individuals to access safe and suitable housing
- Preventing homelessness through forward-thinking initiatives
- Reducing rough sleeping via proactive, collaborative, and person-centred solutions
What's next?
With the strategies now approved, we will begin implementation. Councillor Julia McShane, Lead Councillor for Housing, confirmed our commitment to our housing service, stating:
"Service leaders will now be discussing both strategies and action plans with their teams as they look to bring together the work we already do with our aspiration to deliver even better services to our residents. We hope this marks the beginning of greater innovation and improvement."
Expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to shaping these strategies, Councillor McShane added:
"Your input has been invaluable in setting a clear, ambitious direction for our housing and homelessness services. We remain focused on continuous improvement, ensuring that residents remain at the heart of everything we do."
Looking ahead
We remain steadfast in our mission to create an inclusive, welcoming community, where everyone has access to decent homes they can afford.
Updates on the progress of these strategies will be shared with teams, partners, and residents as implementation moves forward.
