Local young people enjoy fun day out thanks to Council and community organisations

Young people from our local Youth Café enjoyed a fun trip to Thorpe Park this Summer thanks to our Community Wellbeing team and local organisations.
A third of the young people who attend the weekly drop-in sessions at The Hive Youth Café are young carers. The trip gave them valuable time with friends and peers.
The trip was funded by Guildford Lions and an Aspire Community Grant. The group travelled to Thorpe Park by coach, which was provided free of charge by local company Safeguard Coaches.
Cllr Carla Morson, Lead Councillor for Community, says:
"Thanks to the generosity of local organisations, we've been able to give local young people the chance to enjoy a fun day out during the school summer holidays. This trip was particularly important to those who care for a friend or family member.
"We know that being a young carer can have a big impact on the things that are important when growing up. With the right support in place, we can help young carers to feel less isolated, give them access to information and advice, and offer the opportunity to enjoy activities and breaks with their friends."
Barry Jutsum, Guildford Lions Communing and Welfare Chairperson adds:
"We are pleased that we could support this important trip for local young people, and the young carers who attend the Council's Youth Café. We hope they enjoyed the day!"
James Vallance, Managing Director of Safeguard Coaches says:
"It is an absolute pleasure to be able to help out such an important local group. It is all about putting a big smile on the faces of these young people and giving them the best day out, which they truly deserve."
Following the trip, a parent sent a message of thanks to our Community Wellbeing team. It read: "My son had a great day at Thorpe Park with all his friends. I'm really grateful for all you do, with these summer outings and the weekly Youth Café. It makes such a difference!"
The Youth Café is a free drop-in space for young people in school years 7 to 11. It is open every Thursday during term time from 4pm to 5.30pm at The Hive, Park Barn Drive.
