New street art project brings colourful makeover to town centre building
It's part of the next phase of our Street Art Project. It aims to breathe new life into public spaces, using art to create a greater sense of place and pride in our town.
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September, the artists painted eye-catching murals on the wooden boards surrounding the building. It took place in a live street art demonstration that was open to the public.
Each of the street artists brought their own styles and techniques to this project. It's helped to reinvigorate the building and the surrounding area.
Among the street artists in attendance were Roo and Skyhigh. They recently worked on the fantastic mural underneath the Walnut Bridge. That artwork is next to the River Wey and not far from the Old Orleans building.
This project is part of a wider evidence-based approach to urban improvement. It focuses on cleaning up and improving tired or neglected parts of the town centre.
The Old Orleans site is near the cinema and Walnut Bridge. This creative intervention aims to spruce up the area and make it a more welcoming place for all.
The artists donated their time and expertise to this project free of charge.
Cllr Angela Goodwin, Lead Councillor for Environment and Recreation at Guildford Borough Council, said:

Experience Guildford, in partnership with Guildford Borough Council, is now seeking contributions to fund street art projects in areas which are not council owned, but are equally in need of some attention.
