New Joint Strategic Director of Finance and Section 151 Officer appointed

We've appointed Jo Knight as our new Joint Strategic Director of Finance and Resources and Section 151 Officer. This is a joint role at Guildford Borough Council and Waverley Borough Council.

  • Waverley councillors approved the appointment at a Council meeting on Tuesday 2 December.
  • Guildford councillors approved the appointment at a Council meeting on Tuesday 9 December.

This is a pivotal role within both councils:

  • forming part of the Corporate Leadership Board
  • carrying responsibility for financial leadership and statutory Section 151 duties.

A key priority for both councils

Creating a resilient and well-managed council that ensures we are capable of delivering services effectively and efficiently.

The experience Jo brings to this role

  • A CIPFA and CIMA-qualified accountant
  • She has held senior roles in local government
  • has been instrumental in driving financial improvements.
  • Initially appointed as our Assistant Director for Finance in September 2023.
  • She became the Joint Assistant Director for Finance and Deputy Section 151 Officer at Guildford Borough Council and Waverley Borough Council in April this year.
