A day at the theatre for The Hive's volunteers

Thanks to the Yvonne Arnaud, the volunteers will spend an afternoon at the theatre in recognition of the dedication, time and energy they give to the community.

The Hive's volunteers bring with them different life experiences that help make Guildford's community hub a welcoming and inclusive space for all. They are essential to its success and support with a wide range of activities such as:

  • restocking the Community Fridge and Pantry
  •  supporting the Honeypot Coffee Shop and kitchen
  • maintaining garden spaces
  •  helping older residents with activities and providing them with essential companionship.

Ella, a volunteer at The Hive, said:

"I started volunteering at The Hive after retiring a year ago, and it feels like I've gained a new family. The Community Wellbeing team are amazing to work with and have helped me become more independent since retiring. I love coming in twice a week to serve lunches, teas, and coffees in the activities lounge to our older community and having a chat with them.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the show and have a get-together with the whole volunteer team at The Hive, they're all so lovely and friendly, and it's always nice to have a trip to the theatre!"

Cllr Carla Morson, Lead Councillor for Community, said:

"The Hive is a thriving community centre, and at its heart are our volunteers. They provide a friendly face and give up their time to help those who need it most. By supporting our Community Wellbeing team, volunteers give us more capacity to help even more people across the borough.

"What makes our volunteers so special is the wealth of experience, talents, and life skills they all bring. We're incredibly grateful to be able to recognise their contribution, thanks to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. The Hive simply wouldn't be the same without their dedication, kindness and genuine care. Anyone can get involved with volunteering and everyone has something to offer."

Rhiannon Fisher, Head of Creative Learning from Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, said:

"We have been working closely with The Hive over the last five years to provide access to the theatre for local residents. Our volunteer ushers are the lifeblood of the theatre, so we are thrilled to be supporting The Hive volunteers to take some time out together to enjoy a trip to the Yvonne Arnaud."
