Bringing partners together to drive social value for residents

This week, alongside Waverley Borough Council, we brought together over 80 organisations from across the public, private and voluntary sectors to drive social value across the community.

Following the launch of our new Social Value Strategy, the collaborative event focused on turning ambition into action, providing long lasting benefits for residents, the local economy, and the environment.

The day marked an important step in developing a community-led approach to social value and helping to connect and build on the valuable work already taking place across the boroughs. Through panel discussions and interactive workshops, community partners shared how social value is being used to deliver meaningful benefits for local people across Guildford and Waverley.

By collaborating more closely, organisations can help residents access employment, develop skills, support local charities and community groups, improve public spaces and contribute to a healthier environment.

Deputy Leader and Lead Councillor for Economy and Place at Guildford Borough Council, Councillor Vanessa King, said:

"Social value is so much more than a strategy on paper, in action it makes a real difference to our residents across a wide range of areas. Today shows how we can continue to strengthen our connections with communities, schools, charities, businesses and employers, guided by our new strategy.

"Hearing from SATRO, Smith and Byford, VolkerFitzpatrick, Feltham Construction and McConnell highlighted the amazing work already making a difference across our communities. Their insights sparked valuable conversations about how we can build on this success and create even more opportunities for local people."

Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development at Waverley Borough Council, Councillor Liz Townsend, added:

"By working together, we can achieve far more than any organisation can alone. Creating social value relies on strong partnerships, genuine collaboration and a shared commitment to improving our communities.

"This event has been a valuable opportunity to bring partners together, strengthen relationships and explore how we can make public money work harder for local people. Together, we can turn this strategy into real outcomes for our residents and create lasting positive change across Guildford and Waverley."
