Help shape your future council websites

New websites are being developed for East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council ahead of their launch in April 2027. 

Take part in a short survey to help make sure those websites are easy to use. The survey takes just 5 to 10 minutes.

Apply for a medical exemption

The equality act places certain responsibilities on taxi drivers whilst they are carrying disabled passengers. In some cases taxi drivers may be exempt from fulfilling these duties. You can apply for an exemption from:

  • carrying an assistance dog 
  • being a driver of a wheelchair accessible vehicle

To apply you need to prove why we should issue an exemption. This should be a medical reason.
Your registered doctor must complete the relevant section of the application form. Your application will then be sent to our medical consultants.

If we grant an exemption certificate this needs to be clearly on display in your vehicle whenever you are working.
It needs to be removed when you are not driving the vehicle. 

We aim to make a decision on your application within 10 working days.
