Dangerous Wild Animals Licence
Apply for a Dangerous Wild Animals Licence.
Any person who keeps a dangerous wild animal, as defined by the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1973, is required to have a licence.
To find out whether your animal is classed as a dangerous wild animal, please check the dangerous wild animals list.
A licence is not required for dangerous wild animals kept at a pet shop or at a zoo.
Applicants must be over 18 years of age and must not be disqualified from keeping a dangerous wild animal under the terms of the act.
Apply for a licence
To apply for a Dangerous Wild Animal licence, you will need to send us the following documents:
- a completed . You can complete this by hand or on your computer
- a copy of a valid Public Liability Insurance Policy.
Documents may be submitted by post or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. We regret that we cannot accept photographs or documents, only clear scans.
The application fee is £321 (plus vet fees) which is payable by card over the phone.
You should be aware of the local planning requirements with regard to the proposed use of the premises. We advise that you should enter into early discussion with the planning authority before construction of any part of the building that may be subject to planning restriction or control.
Once we have received your application, the Dog Warden will arrange for an inspection, to ensure the welfare of the animals and to make sure accommodation is suitable. You should anticipate a visit shortly after your application is submitted.
Renew a licence
To keep a dangerous wild animal, you must maintain a current licence by renewing it every two years. The renewal fee is £305 (plus vet fees).
To renew this licence, please send the following documents:
- an updated . You can complete this by hand or on your computer
- an updated copy of your Insurance Policy.
Documents may be posted or emailed to email@example.com. We regret that we cannot accept photographs of documents, only clear scans.
You will be sent a reminder several months before the expiry of your licence. If you do not wish to renew, please inform us in writing.
Renewal payments for animal licences are now handled through our Finance Department. You will be invoiced separately for your application fee.
Your premises does not require an inspection before the issue of a renewed licence. An inspection will be carried out during the course of the licence.
Approval of licence
We will aim to respond to your application as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please get in contact. We must process your application before the licence can be granted, so Tacit Consent does not apply.
